Linnits and finches are caught in the following way by birdlime.

Linnits and finches are caught in the following way by birdlime. A man takes a bird with him a bird in a cage a tame bird and also sprigs. He pares the springs and about 4 ins from the top he mounts the lime. Then he picks a small bush which is called a set and puts the sprigs on it. Then he puts the on the ditch or on the hedge. If the linnets or finches are around he flushes them to the set and the bird in the cage atracks them and when they are caught the man takes them off and rubs them with paraffin oil and puts them into a trapcage and takes them home and puts them into a cage.
In this way bird-lime is made with raw linseed oil. You would have to get a enamel saucepan and put down a fire and get a bath and fill it with water and stir the oil
