    When the people were evicted they either went into a neighbour's cottage or into the workhouse. Sometimes they had to live by the roadside. The police and bailiffs went out to the houses with a battering ram and battered down the door.
    The lands were never subdivided among the people. The landlords exercised great power over them. At an election when the candidate's name was called out whom the landlord was in favour of, all his tenants called out "Yes". If they failed to do this they were immediately evicted. They were always punished for trivial acts.
    Thites were collected from the Catholic tenants for the upkeep of the Protestant Church. They were collected for Mr. Harry Koe[?] one time. The tithes were collected in money and stock. The people hated the tithe-collectors
