  1. The house of Mrs. Kelly, Summerhill, Nenagh, took fire one evening five years ago, when the owner was at prayers. It is believed, a lamp set fire to the bed clothes, then it spread to the bedroom floor. Flame spread quickly and were noticed by passers-by, but as the door was locked, they were unable to gain entrance.
Messengers rushed for the fire hose and a ladder was also secured. The windows were reached by means of the ladder and entrance effected. Water was poured from the hose into the blazing room, but the floor collapsed before the fire was put out and great damage was done.
