- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Should I stay at home and guard the nest,
Ah, no, though my friends they might insist,
By Japers, I'd go along with the rest,
And see the Cormeen Races.
So my shoes I polished, my face I washed,
And in my hurry, the basin I smashed,
And out through the door like the devil I dashed,
Without waiting to tie my laces. In no time at all, I arrived at Cormeen,
Where hundreds and hundreds awaiting had been,
On a little hillside green,
To the west of Charlie Skelly's,
Some had their seats taken above in trees,
Enjoying the cool December breeze,
Whilst girls in one's and two's and three's
Paraded about with their fellows. The works of Nature for months before,
Had been uprooted and tattered and torn,
Here choicest flowers in bouquets the wore,
And hats that streamed ostrich and peacock.
And tresses that floated about with the wind,
And rings and strings of many a kind,
And things before, and things behind,
As big as a little haycock.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
