- About fifty years ago a very heavy frost storm swept over Ireland. In Virginia it lasted for three months. At night they lit tar-barrells to show them light while they skated on Lough Ramor, which was covered with a thick coating of ice.
On the far shore there was some timber, the property of the Marquis of Headfort. Terry Caffrey and Phil Coonan drew it across for him.
On the fair day they ventured to cross the lake with carts of pigs. They got over and back safely. Willie Reilly was then blacksmith in the town. He was kept busy sharpening the horses hoofs before they crossed over.- Bailitheoir
