There are many indoor games played on that night such as diving in a baisin of flour for a sixpence and hanging and apple on a twine out of the ceiling and trying with their mouths to bite it as it swings. A great source of fun also is roasting nuts. These are placed in pairs on the hearthstone and when they are well roasted a light is applied to them. The names of two well known sweethearts are put on each pair. Of the blaze of the two nuts encircle each other that is a sign they will get married, but if they jump away from each other the lovers will be parted.
Nuts, apples, and oranges form a large part of the Hallowe'en feast.
