- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)It was a hay-ball that was kicked. A hay rope was twisted and it was rolled in the form of a football. This hay-ball when wet was very heavy and men were often injured when they got a good blow of the ball. For some reason or another the clergy condemned the use of a ball. The hay-ball was about the size of a size six football. Sometimes a pig's bladder was used as a football. It was first cleaned and then it was blown up and put in the chimney to be smoked. It was left there for about three days and then it was fit for kicking. Sometimes it was put in a leather cover which was made for the purpose.
