- (continued from previous page)the soil rich. He puts this on the ground before he sews the potatoes. In drills he uses the plough and he uses the spade when he is (sew) sowing the potatoes in the ridges. Long ago it was all wooden ploughs were used but now they are all iron ones. The spades were made in forges long ago. In Summer the farmers spray them to keep the blight from killing them. When the potatoes are ready for picking. The farmers gather men to help them. The men get baskets for picking them. When they are picked they are put into a pit and covered with rushes. (Includes drawing of a spade)
