  1. I supposed no country suffered as much as Ireland did during the penal days. The people turned against the priests. The Catholic priests were banned and hunted out of the country. They were hunted by a class of people called priest-hunters. Those priest-hunters would get a reward of three or four pounds if they would get the head of a priest. The priest had to (get) say Mass on a rock on the mountain side.
    There was a priest called Father Murphy who used to say Mass along the mountain side in the townland of Burren. One day he saw a band of priest-hunters coming in the direction where he was saying Mass. He knew it was after him they were coming. After a little while the priest jumped off the rock and was nearly killed. The jump he did was called the "Giants Leap". He ran and went to a house nearby.
    He said that the priest-hunters were after him. They put him to bed and when he would hear a blast of wind he would rise in the bed and say they were coming after him. Next
