  1. Long ago in this district herbs were looked upon as the cures for many ailments. The old people were very skilled in making oils and ointments.
    Red clover roots were used for coughs, colds etc.,
    Red dock roots were used for cleansing ulcers in the mouth.
    Yellow dock roots are excellent for skin diseases, rheumatism and liver complaints.
    Dandelion roots are a popular remedy for kidney and liver trouble. Camomile flowers combined with poppy heads make a splendid poultice for allaying pain.
    A cure for burns is.
    Roots of daisies. Ribbed grass.
    Plantin leaf. Tops of elders.
    Fresh butter or lard.
    The herbs are fried in the fat and strained. They are then ready.
