    Roinn Roinn Postáil
    About the year 1850 a half mile from Longford the canal burst and flooded a large part of the countryside. A family living near the canal were in great danger when the water began to rise the father got out his wife and three children to safety on a laneway and on returning for his mother he missed the plank and was drowned. In the morning the old woman was got quite safe. Repairing the breach gave a good deal of much needed employment.
