    This great wind also took the roofs off houses. There was one man in particular whose name was John McGivney who lived in Cara in the parish of Abbeylara, Co. Longford, and it seems that he was a great sleeper because when he awoke in the morning he had nothing over him but the sky for a high roof as the wind had swept the roof off his house.
    This wind also knocked the trees in Major Dopping's plantations and the people came from twenty miles around to buy the trees as there was a famine for fire on account of no turf being saved the previous Summer, so "It is ill - wind that blows no one good."
