  1. The people in olden times used not to wear boots until they were about six or seven years of age, and quite number of people never wore boots or shoes. The children at our school do not wear boots in the Summer months. The water used for washing the feet is thrown out. Boots are made and repaired locally, but there are less shoemakers than there were about forty years ago. In those days the shoemaker used to be given his board and lodging while he was making footwear for the family. Clogs are made and worn locally up to the present day.

  2. Bread is made from oats, wheat and corn grown locally. Potato-cake, Boxty-bread, and Oat-meal bread, are still made here. The boxty-bread is made by grating raw potatoes which are then put in a strainer until the starch is drained off. This grated potato is added to flour and baked in the over. Some people add currants, carraway seeds, and spice.
The people make oat-bread by mixing it with very hot water and then rolling it out thinly with a rolling-pin
