  1. Long ago the world was covered with ice and snow. In the North there was just one fire which was to be kept going by a hunter who lived there. A white bear lived in that country and he wanted to drive away the hunter so that he should have the land to himself, the bear thought if he could put the fire out the hunter would have to go away. All this happened before men had learned to make fire, when they wanted it they had to go to another fire for a light. One day the bear put out the fire when the hunter was asleep, the bear then thought he would be the only hunter in the North.
    The robin was watching all this, but he did not want the hunter to go because when the hunter ate he gave scraps to the robin, the robin flew down and saw a little spark in the fire
