  1. Ash Wednesday is the opening day of Lent. On that day the people attend Mass and the priest puts ashes on their forehead. He dips his fingers in a plate of ashes which he holds and then puts a mark with his finger on the forehead whilst saying some Latin words. This is to remind you that you are made from ashes and dust and that you will return to the same.
