  1. A man who lived in my district up to about a month ago was a very good man for mending boots and shoes long ago. His name was Jim Shaughnessy and he died about 21st January at the age of seventy-six.
The people of the district used to send him the boots to mend.
He had a little hut outside where he spent nearly half the night mending the boots in the candle-light. The one misfortune was the light of the candle blinded him. He had been four or five years blind when he died.
