    times travel in families and sometimes in bands. The best known of these families are, Donohues, Keenans, Powers and Dinegans. They usually come round before the fairs in Mullingar and they sometimes stop a few days on their way to the races.
    In olden times the "travelling folk" brought news from distant places to the district and they were always welcome. When they arrived at a house people gathered from far and near to hear them. But this is not done at all now. At that time, they were usually given food and lodging and they were welcome to stay a few days.
