- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)He plants the potatoes in ridges. He keeps the ridges straight by means of stakes and a line. He digs a furrow or hollow in the ground with a spade. He throws the clay from the furrow in a heap; and forms a ridge, about three feet wide, and running the entire length of the field.
He puts manure on the ridges. He cuts the potatoes, leaving an 'eye' in each piece These pieces are placed on the manure about nine inches apart, the inner portion resting on the manure. Then he covers them with clay.Wooden ploughs were used long ago in our district, but there are none left now. Spades are not made locally. They are always bought in a shop. The local people do not help one another.During the Summer the weeds must be removed, then a second mound is put on them, and then they are sprayed to prevent 'blight' We employ a boy to pick the potatoes from the earth. We store them in pits. My father digs a deep pit in the ground(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
