Long ago when a marriage passed a house the person living there, ran out and threw an old boot after it as it was considered a token of luck. At the wedding breakfast the bride cuts the cake and the bridegroom holds the knife with her. (Everyone) Each of the guests receives a slice. During the feast special people stand up at the table and give a speech. Then all drink a toast of health, happiness and luck to the bride and bridegroom who shake hands with all present and thank all the guests. When the dancing begins every young man present dances with the bride. There were always strawboys at every wedding long ago. These were boys dressed up in straw who were greatly welcomed and took part in the feasting and dancing. The wedding feast usually lasted a day and a night(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
