- The greatest rainstorm in living memory in these parts was in June 1919. Water of the rivers flowed over the walls of the bridge which fords the river Borora at the south end of the village.
Fires on the open hearth were extinguished by the flow of the rain down the chimneys. All the turf on the bog was floating in one mass next day and no man knew his own.
Various kitchen utensils were floating about and cocks of hay were carried long distances.
