- The following poem was written about the year 1827, and composed on Daniel O'Connell.
The poet who was a great admire of the Liberato referred to him as the son of an old woman meaning an old country. During this period there were in the country what was known as Partymen.
There lived near Moynalty in a lodge an old man who was a wool comber by trade. This man was suspected by his Party of giving away the tips to his master who was a magistrate. He was taken out one night to a plantation where his ears were cut off. The following is the poem on O'Connell:-I
I am an old woman of high understanding
That passed through the temple of honour and fame
My friends throughout Europe are widely expanding
I have but one favourite and Dan is his name.II
A bright inspiration his mind elevated
His manly endeavours are pleasing to me
And by the Almighty he is animated
to slacken our chains and to see us all free.III
The Orange atrocious, insidious revilers
