- Long ago the people had many cures in this district. Sometimes these cures were made from herbs. When children took measles they people used to boil nettles and drain them and give it to them. A cure for a scald or a boil is sugar and soap mixed. A blessed thistle is a cure for the whooping cough. A cure for ringworm or wild fire is seven red sticks which are offered to the wild-fire while words are said.
