The front of the chimney was made of clay and wattles.The old floors were all made of clay. Half door were quite common, but one is a rare sight now.Coal and wood were used for the fires as very little turf was to be had nearer than in Ardee bog.Tallow candles were used for lights, and rush-lights were also used. Both were made locally. In fact nearly every household made its own supply. Old moulds may be seen in some of the old houses.
