  1. Local Cures
    In every district in Ireland there are peculiar cures which are not known in any other district.
    In olden times in Ireland doctors were not as they are now. The knowledge of medicine was not studied as it is to-day and people used their own remedies for different ailments.
    The remedies in Ireland were many. In some cases it is quite simple nowadays to know where the remedy lay. This of course would apply to the cures got from plants and herbs that grow in our fields. Very many people long ago in Ireland were well acquainted with the particular cures to be got from the different herbs. It is a great pity this knowledge was not handed down. Certainly here and there through the country we meet people who have this knowledge.
    Perhaps the commonest of long ago were those got from herbs or plants. There are very few country people who do not know that the dock leaf is a cure for a burn was sting of a nettle. An old cure was to boil primrose leaves and mix them with lard. The people in olden times depended very much on an onion juice rubbed to a string of a wasp or a bee would cure it. Also an onion rubbed on a bald head is good for the growth of hair.
    There were other remedies long ago but it is rather difficult to explain where they drive
