side him. They couldn't see e'er a sheep, but they know from the way he used to be talking, that he saw it. So they took him to the same Priest in Banogue, and 'tis what he said was that he was only half-christened or not christened right. anyway he read for him, and christened him right, and from that day out, he was as right as me or you. The Blakes and the Barrys were big people around here long ago.

The Blakes and the Barrys were big people around here long ago. They were all powerful men,and the girls of 'em were all fine handsome women. They were terrible four-year olds and they used to carry the day wherever they'd go. One of the Barrys was married to my uncle's grandfather, and some short time before the wedding, the Priest spoke from the altar about the faction fighting, and the parties that were carrying it on, and whether he mentioned them by name of not, I cannot say, but everyone knew anyway, who he was referring to.
The Priest's name was Father Cherry. They used to have the wedding in the houses that time and they used make up a collection for the Priest at the wedding instead of paying him the way they do now. Well at any rate when the time for making the collection came on, the Priest, Father Cherry, called the "Cloth-coated men to come forward". These were the big people I mentioned, I don't know rightly whether they refused to come or whether
