The referee was selected locally, and as the rules wre not strict any person that was able to kick a football was allowed to play. Both hurling and footbal were played in this town years before the G.A.A. was founded, and the rules in force. The football was always made locally either by good shoemakers or good harness makers. The interior was made of the skin of a cow. The size of the football was very large and often uneven in its shape, as to its roundness. All repairs were done by members of the Club. In the hurling team every player should be able to make his own hurley, and if he failed to do this, he got no place of honour, as a player in matches of the team. The hurling ball was made locally, each member giving any help he could give, to make the interior of the ball, which was taken to the local shoe-maker, or harness maker, to cover it with leather.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
