- Hurling and football games in olden times, were played without rules, such are as in force by the Gaelic Athletic Association of to-day. The G. A. A. was founded at Thurles in the year 1884.
There is a record of a great football match between Feenagh and Dromcollogher. The game was played across the country, and which ever parish took the ball home, they were the victors. Both clubs, as we call them, met on a Sunday, and selected a field, the field they selected was the largest one between the boundaries of each parish. This was supposed to be midway, and each side rushed to get possession of the ball. The tussle was fierce, as each side did its best to get the ball on their home field. The players were all over the field, and outside the fences, to send the ball back to their own side. This match would be played in a(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
