There is a large stone lying on the seashore on the west side of Cork Harbour nearly opposite Spike Island to which the following legend is attached. A giant named Mac Cumhail lived in a cave in Currabinny wood. This giant in a fit of rage took a stone weighing 20 tons from Currabinny strand and hurled it at a fleeing enemy - a Scottish giant. It fell on the strand at "Loch Mór". This stone is known at the present day as "Cloch an Óir". There are five marks on the stone and they are supposed to be the fingermarks of the giant. Many people come to view this stone in summer time.Stormey seas washed over it but could not remove it.Collected by Joan O'Mahony
