“The ruins of the Old Forge are still to be seen in Ringaskiddy.”
The ruins of the "old Forge" are still to be seen in Ringaskiddy.
It is a wreck for over one hundred years. It is a mean looking building - more than half being exposed to the weather.
The other half was covered with timber planks and iron sheeting.
The "Enright" family worked the forge and they were famous for shoeing. Hunters were brought to them from far and near.
All classes of ironwork was carried on there. The present Enrights descendants of the others have a beautiful slate roofed forge at Shanbally, village.
They too are famous for shoeing. They are carpenters as well as smiths and have a workshop attached to the forge.- Bailitheoir
