  1. In this district a certain story is frequently related by the old people. Long ago there was a forge situated on the bank of the river Brogeen. There are no remains of the forge to be seen now. The story concerns the death of Mc.Donagh Mc.Carthy.
    He is supposed to have gone to the forge to get his horse shod. The blacksmith, whose name is not known had no horse-shoe for the horse so instead he got a gun from off the shelf of
