  1. On the hill of Kilmurry where oft in my childhood,
I spent my young days with a heart free from care.
And gathered the fruits from the vines in the wildwood,
And plucked the wild roses perfuming the air.
    I.
And oft in the evening when homeward returning,
I watched the sun shading its light o'er the plain.
And oh what delight in my young heart was burning,
That I'd wish in Kilmurry I'd always remain.
    II.
Mid the cluster of trees on the hill of Kilmurry,
Stands the old Abbey ruin with its ivy clad walls.
The lime tree, the elm the poplar, wild cherry,
Around this old Abbey grown shady and tall.
All nature's wild flowers in profusion will grow there,
O'er the graves that are marked with a cross at each head.
And the evergreen palms that for ages have stood there,
Like a sentinel guarding the home of the dead.
    III.
How delightful to stand on the hill of Kilmurry,
Where the sun from the west shed its light o'er the plain.
And the huntsman at evening is crossing the ferry,
And marching his hounds o'er the Mychal domain.
Wherever I wander I'll think of Kilmurry,
Though the waves of the ocean between us may swell.
I soon bid adieu to my old home near Dripsey,
And charming Kilmurry for ever fairwell.
