For to starch the clothes they used potatoes for to stiffin them. They used to have blue paper and they would boil the paper and water and leave it cool to blue the clothes. They used soot for polishing their shoes. They made soap from the fat of the 'soap' cow. For making soap and candles they had moulds. For wicks for the candles they had cotton shoe laces. They used to boil nettles with the meat for their dinner as a vegetable.
