- Spinning WheelsSpinning wheels were machines for spinning wool or flax into threads.
In the olden times one of these was to be found in almost every house in Ardfield parish.
The wool was first sent away to the mill to be carded and when brought back it was spun by the women into thread.
The spinning wheel was round made of wood and with a number of wooden spindles in it. The home spun was very strong and thick and therefore gave great wear.Mary O Keeffe
