- In Carhuvouler and adjacent townlands they use a thing called a "fiddle" for scattering the seed oats.
The farmers there make it themselves.
- In the setting of wheat it was considered lucky to start the planting on Friday.
- In scattering oats with hand or machine if a mistake is made in the scattering so that an empty space is let in the field it is called the siól dearmad. This was supposed to be unlucky - that some misfortune would befall the owner of the field that year.
