    from Cahirciveen and the District Inspector - Lowdnes who resided in Skibbereen were going to Castleisland with provisions. The boat was sailing - Lowdnes was steering and O' Leary was seated at the head of the mast. As they neared "Traigh n-Ínseac" the boat was capsized by a squall and O' Leary sank Lowdnes held on to the gunnel until he was rescued and a week afterwards after a diligent search with dredges and graplins a Long Island man, John O'Regan found the dead body. He was then waked in the Schull boat-house. Lowdnes was in a very weak state when he was found. He was taken to Andrew Caverly's house at the White Castle, where he was nursed back to strength.
