The woman got very sick and at last she got so weak that the people believed she was dead. They buried her very soon as was the custom then.
Now it happened that a certain thief knew that the woman had a valuable ring on her finger. The night after the burial he dug the grave and tried to pull the ring off the woman's finger but it was too tight.
He took out his penknife and began cutting off her finger. When she felt the pain because she was not really dead she sat up in the coffin where the caretaker found her.
