    Shrove, or Saraft, as it is called in this locality, is the usual period for marriage in this parish. Many people wait until Shrove Tuesday, and several people get married throughout the year, but Saraft is the usual season.
    If a marriage takes place on a bright sunny day, the marriage is said to be a lucky marriage, as the old proverb says, "happy for the bride that the sun shines on."Old people have a little rhyme in connection with the days for marriage. It runs as follows "Monday for health, Tuesday for wealth, Wednesday the best day of all, Thursday for losses, Friday for crosses, and Saturday the worst day of all. But this little vese is not heeded now, as people get married any day of the week.
    Mathchmaking was a very prevalent custom in olden times, but not so much at present. few matches are made nowadays.
    Money is usually given as dowry or"fortune" as it is locally called. It is oft times said that several people marry especially for money. Stock or goods is scarcely ever given,
