To add to their utter confusion, for want of the turf and the fire.
The blight it fell in profusion, so early as the month of July.
So before the brave noble potatoe got time for to ripen or grow,
T’was as rotten as dung in a stable and turned as black as a coal.
You see there is sad desolation, and hardship prevading the land,
For want of the fire and potatoes both which you have at your command
With roast beef and mutton and bacon, to use when ever you please,
And they you can eat lawn-a-vola, wherever you linger the day.
So while you are thus situated, I’m certain you need not complain
But pray to your Dear Mr. Patrick, these comforts to you He’l maintain
So therefore refrain from your nonsense, and never desire for to mention
Nor trouble your soul or your conscience, to English or Irish the Simpsons.
You see there is hunger and hardship, and cold in this country all through
Which aroused Mr. Patricks alarm, and gave Him employment to do,
He cut down his groves and plantations, as fuel and fire for the poor
And saved them from death and starvation, and rendered them safe and secure.
The Lord in his goodness and mercy, his wisdom and power supreme
May change all these things and reverse them, and plenty and peace may proclaim
And may he propitious to Ireland, his gifts and his favours maintain
And kindly attend to this island and grant us our climate again
