    "Stand back and let Joe Byrne laugh."
    This expression is used locally by people who are sceptical and cynical of something another person tells them. It is the equivalent locally of the modern "Sez you"! or "Youre tell in me"
    There was a man living in this district at one time called Joe Byrne. He was very addicted to laughing and laughed very often for no reason at all. One day the local braggart said he could jump a certain ditch and being goaded to the attempt failed to clear it and landed in the slime and muid. One onlooker outlaughed the rest
