  1. There was a very heavy fall of snow in January 1918. It was the same height as the ditches along the roads. Where it drifted it was thirty feet in dept, and remained until the following August. Where it was the lowest it lasted two months. Some of the people could not get out of the houses, and they had to bring in the snow and let it melt, to make a road out. A great number of cattle and sheep were lost under the show and others died with the hunger. A lot of birds died with the hunger also and the crows used to kill blackbirds and eat them.
