    Local Poets
    Paddy McCormack was the name of a poet who lived in my district formerly. He lived about 100 yards from Ballyroddy school, to the south-west of it, in a small thatched one room cabin, the site of which can still be seen. He was born about 1/4 mile up the road, but his mother and himself, were evicted in the 'bad times' and went to live in the cabin referred to. He was about 85 years when he died, and he is dead sixteen or seventeen years. He is buried in Shankhill grave. yard. No story is told of how he got the gift of verse making, or whether any of his ancestors had it or not. He made several songs:- one on the 'Boer War' already entered, Francis Higgins Ass 'The Croke Football' is a song in praise of the women, and one in dispraise of them. Kitty O'Doherty.
