    imported into Ireland. It was very fat and was covered with salt. This was sold at fourpence per lb. When the famine started a number of people went into the workhouse but they got little or no food to eat, and the people would rather die than live in it.
    Over one thousand families died in this vicinity, and, the same number emigrated. At the Rent Office a £ was given to anyone who left Ireland, and promised never to return.
    A story is told of a man, named Pat Molloy, who had so many potatoes, during the plentiful year, that he dug a pit and put the potatoes in it to rot. The following year came the blight and Pat Molloy and his family were the first that
