- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)it was certainly very easy to convince them. The principal crops failed to grow and the people now knew, that, what little gold they had was useless for the English government and landlords refused to sell the food unless the people apostatised.
They fed and clad the people if they consented to hand their children up to the orphanage governor, who, of course, "brought them up" and educated them in the protestant religion. Those people distributed food soups and porridge and clothing to the few apostates, and it was then and on that account that those "generous" people were called "soupers". There are two of the "souper's pots" still detained by one of the descendants namely Miss Fry of Fry Brook.
