wife was lying stone dead on the bed. The priest did his duty and Dan ran to his neighbours. The neighbours came and laid out Mary and waked her for two nights. Then the funeral wsa prepared. The funeeral had to cross the canal twice, once immediatel after leaving the house and also as they were about to ener the town. Just as they were entering the town Mary knocked at the coffin and the men that were carrying the coffin stopped immediately and took the lid off and out jumped Mary. The people that were there were unable to move with surprise. They wrapped her in a white sheet and brought her to the nearest house and the people there were gone to meet the funeral so she had the house for herself. She drew the fire out a bit and warmed herself. She called to a woman near to make her a cup of tea and when she had the tea and got some warm clothes she was in good spririts. That woman lived for two years after that.
