    1755 "A Murder and Gibbeting"
Three men named Joyce from Galway used to come with socks. They lodged at night in an inn in "Raw deer park" The house is now occupied by a man named Francey. On one occasion there was a row and one of the Joyces was Killed. His body was found in a bog near the inn.
Two men were arrested, but at the first trial there was not enough evidence to convict them. A girl belonging to the inn who was friendly with Joyce had given him shoe buckles as a present. These were found on one of the accused men. They were again tried at the Monaghan Assizes and condemned to be hanged a the Deer Park.
One of the men listened to the priest and repented. The other like the thief on Cavalry not only refused to repent but prayed that the devil would take all in the district
