    Marriages usually take place before or after Lent as people do not usually get married during Lent.The usual custom is that the groom goes to the bride's house match-making and takes another man with him as well as a bottle of whiskey to treat the bride's parents.
    When they are a while in the house they break the news that they are looking for a woman and a hundred pounds.Sometimes the men are easier pleased with the marriage portion and the marriage day is named.The marriage feast takes place in the bride's house.If the friends and neighbours are not invited they do what is known as "to kettle" them for a few nights afterwards.They throw bottles and lids and everything on the roof. The groom takes the bride back to his own house and she receives a lot of presents
