- The bird of the air are very numerous and their habits are varied.
The wild birds in this part of the country are the robin, the crow, the thrush and the wren.
Some birds migrate to us from other countries and these are the swallow, cuckoo and the fieldfair. Other birds such as Starling, Wild ducks and the Wild geese come here in October. All these birds build their nests in different placed.
The swallow builds its nests under the eaves of houses, under high banks by the river.
The crow builds its nest on the tops of high trees out of the reach of danger.
The wren has been called the King of all birds. Why it gets its name is hard to tell. Its nest, in which it lays from fifteen to eighteen eggs, is built of moss and feather, is very cosy and is unlike the nests of other birds in shape. The wren is a very small bird smaller even than a robin, and of a brown colour. It is seldom seen as it is fond of hiding in holes.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
