    the potato digger.
Potatoes set in drills are usually dug with a plough or potato-digger. Those set in ridges are dug with a spade. They are picked by all members of the household but especially by the womenfolk. They are mostly all stored in pits in the field. The principal varieties grown are Kerpinks, Arranbanners, champions and Irish queens. Some time ago it was mostly all champions that were grown in this district.
