    hundred yards from my house.
    Mr Walker was the master's name. His fee was very small, a penny a week from each pupil. In hot weather the master used to take the pupils out in the open air along the ditches and under the hedges and teach them.
    This school was situated in a farmers house in Knockadalteen. Scholars travelled from all parts when school was open during winter. They made ink from the juice of elderberries and made pens from goose-quills.
    When the season for sowing and reaping arrived the scholars went home to work on the farm or to earn their school fee.
