The smith has a special place for putting irons on wheels. It is a round stone the shape of a wheel with a hole in the centre into which the wheel fits.
The smith is generally a tall, strong man, and very dark-complexioned owing to the smuts from the fire.
This is a portion of a poem about the smith:-
"Under a spreading chestnut tree the village smithy stands,
The smith a mighty man is he with large and sinewy hands.
And the muscles of his brawny arms are strong as iron bands."
